I thought this was a very interesting fact, it does seem crazy to think that China which is on the other side of the world exports more to the U.S. than Mexico which borders our country. I think part of it has to do with the communist reform of China which has caused nations to lift the ban from doing business with China. China is the most populated country and throughout history has had the highest GDP up until the late 1800's to early 1900's when the industrial revolution happened and China became communist which then made the United States #1 but now with free trade China is back on the rise.

I think also China is moving at an ever increasing rate. Their economy just keeps growing and as do their companies. Mexico isn't growing at as fast of a rate as China. They are growing, but slower. Whatever we want, we can more than likely get it from China, but that is not the case with Mexico. It takes more time. So even though China isn't as close as Mexico, we are choosing China first.
