Depletion of these resources will cause much trouble in the future. For an economy to function properly we do need some competition, this way we can regulate tariffs, which can control others countries prices for certain items etc. Pollution in Asia is a very big problem, but they do not see it that way at this point in time. They view it as something that must happen for them to be competitive. Most of the pollution comes from the factories they have, although a lot comes from the population (keeping in mid how huge Asia is). I think that this will all change as soon as China and surrounding areas become more of a developed country. This is due to the thought that a developed country should be "clean". They have already begun to try and clean their air with regulations (ie. they turn all the lights off in the main city and certain times).
With the hunger of power discussion by Friedman, I think it is important to realize that every country wants to be more powerful than another country, hence all the world fighting. Everyone hates Americabecause they view us as a very powerful nation. Therefore other countries do not trust us and we do not trust them, with the fear of them turning against us.
I think each country should do what they need to do for the better of their own country. Power should not be an issue. But the fact of the matter is, we want to live in a cookie cutter world, and it is just not going to happen.
